Foundation was weak, to blame for collapse, says Mayor

BENGALURU: Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun visited the accident spot on the early hours of Monday. She said, “After inspecting the spot with the zonal engineers and Joint Commisioner East Zone, we understood that the foundation of apartments were not laid properly. We will demolish both the apartments. The BBMP will give Rs 5 lakhs to the families of the deceased. actions will be taken on the owner, engineer and builder who have made these building. Our project eStrict ngineers will follow up with this.”

Joint Commissioner, G M Ravindra, East Zone, said, “The building had only sanctioned a plan for the construction of three floors along with a cellar but the owners violated the rules and added another floor, which resulted in the soil caving in and causing the building to sink. The building is made on low soil and as such could not stand in this kind of soil. The project was poorly designed without specifications, the need to check the soil bearing capacity, and how much could the building stand. The moisture is also too high near the building which led to the collapse. We are taking strict action.” 
Complaint filed by BBMP

Maruti Seva Nagar, Subdivision BBMP Officer, filed a complaint with the Pulkeshinagar police station asking them to file an FIR stating that it was the negligence of the building owner Mohammed A Shoaib Hameed, Mohammad Imtiyaz A Hameed, Builder Syed and Architect Engineer, BM Sridhar.
