EVERY person has a vision to be made true in his lifetime and this includes musicians. Wednesday morning saw the launch of one such dream of a musician known for his contribution to the Academy Award winning documentary Smile Pinki. Composer and guitarist Prasanna launched the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music in partnership with Marg. The proposed academy will be the first of many institutions at the knowledge park at Marg Swarnabhoomi. Speaking on the occasion Chairman and Managing director GRK Reddy said, “Swarnabhoomi will play a clear role in providing affordable houses with good education system and music. So, residents get the best of all.” The launch also updated the developments at Marg Swarnabhoomi, a township located off the scenic East Coast Road. The 633 acre project will have two special economic zones catering to engineering and multi-services sectors.

Marking the launch of the academy was the release of Prasanna’s latest live concert DVD Live in Sedona, a DVD recorded at a live concert in Arizona featuring Prasanna performing both traditrional carmatic music and his original compositions from his Jimi Hendrix tribute album Electric Ganesha Land. “It was my dream to give back to the society what I can as I was fortunate to get the best education in music,” said Prasanna, an IITM alumnus.

Talking about the academy, he will be spearheading as the president, he said, “It’s nice to see good things like music and are develop around natural surrounding in Swarnabhoomi.”

The academy is planning to open in July 2010 with a one year diploma in music and has plans of starting a full-fledged four year degree program later. A one week workshop will be conducted on contemporary music with international faculty in August 17-21. “The theme of the workshop will be Unlock your potential. We are also planning a public concert at the end of the workshop on August 22 and will be followed by other initiatives,” informed Prasanna.
