CHENNAI: Yu Hsi, the Taiwanese poet was felicitated at the Anna University by Dr Abdul Kalam. The latter on this occasion penned a poem and waxing eloquent over the same (perhaps it was the poet in him), regaled the audience.

The poem was an allegorical representation of a dialogue between two friends, one from the island of Rame, meaning Dr Kalam from Rameshwaram, and the other from the island of Formosa, represented by Yu Hsi. He further said that the islands, surrounded by the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean and representing Lord Buddha and Confucius respectively, and their respective cultures, helped spread the message of human renaissance. Returning the favour, Poet Yu Hsialso wrote a poem about Dr Kalam, known as the ‘Metaphysical Traveler’.

Speaking at the felicitation Yu Hsi said, “ When I come to India, I find a lot of inspiration here to write poetry.” Accepting a copy of the Thirukural from Kalam, Yu Hsi also agreed to translate the Thirukural into Chinese. Justice Mohan in his felicitations compared Yu Hsi to Sarojini Naidu and Tagore.
