The seventh edition of the Variety Film Awards saw various glitterati from the Tamil film industry descend on Kamarajar Arangam on Sunday.

Aadukalam, directed by Vetrimaran, swept the award ceremony by bagging six awards – Best Director, Best Villain, which went to actor Kishore, Best Playback Singer – Male (Velmurugan), Best Choreographer (Dinesh Kumar), Best Editor (E Kishore). The Best Music Director award went to G V Prakash, who also won the same award for Deiva Thirumagal. 

Another film that made its presence felt was Vaagai Sooda Vaa, which won the award for Best Film,  Best Art Director (Seenu) and Best Playback Singer – Female (Chinmayi). The Best Debut Actor award went to Iniya for her performance in the film.

Director K V Anand won the Best Entertainment Director for Ko, while director and actor Samuthirakani won the Best Sensational Director award for his Poraali. On behalf of actor Vijay, who won the hero of the year award, his mother Shoba Chandrasekhar received the award from noted director KV Anand amid thunderous applause. The award for Best Lyricist went to lyricist Madhan Karky.

The technicians and others working behind the scenes were not excluded as  Gnanavelraja of Studio Green won the award for the Best Production House and Sundarraj won the Best Production Executive award. RS Raja won the Best Still Photographer award for Mankatha while Ravi Shankar won the Best Dubbing Artiste award for Ko. Baby Shringa was selected as the Best Dubbing Artiste for Deivathirumagal.
