Professional driving school inaugurated

The Professional Driver Training Academy (PDTA) at Motor Zone, Red Hills was launched by T Prabhakara Rao, IAS, Principal Secretary and Transport Commissioner Tamil Nadu recently. This is an initiative of AB Business Enterprises; a part of the city-based Parveen Travels Group.

According to A Afzal, chairman and managing director, AB Business Enterprises, the goals of PDTA will be to train 1,500 drivers for the year 2012-2013 and has all required infrastructure including a unit operating from Guindy.

He explained the goals of PDTA including the tie up with IRT, Gummidipoondi for driving range and plans of  getting lady instructors to train women.

T Prabhakara Rao, Transport Commissioner, appreciated the initiative taken by the group and recognised its importance in the present context of acute shortage of trained drivers threatening the growth of transportation industry. He also insisted on the safety of the passengers and the sensitivity with which the drivers have to be educated continuously.

The event was followed by opening ceremony of Wheel India Air suspension, an authorised service centre, bySundaraman, general manager, Wheels India Ltd & Paint booth by Rahul Awasthi, regional head, DuPont.

The driver training institute at Gummidipoondi was set up in the year 1979 with an aim to make Heavy Vehicle Driver Training develop quality drivers having adequate knowledge about driving safety and traffic rules and regulation.

The institute is located at Gummidipoondi, Tiruvallur District on the Chennai-Kolkata Grant North Trunk Road(NH-5 ), about 45 km away from the city.
