CBI version on IPS officer case

The Economic Offences Wing of the CBI in Chennai has said that the investigation into the case relating to the alleged abuse of official position and ‘extortion’ by IPS officer Promod Kumar was in the final stage and that it had ample evidence to prove the charges.

Responding to the news item, ‘IPS officer cries foul over CBI’s manner of probe’, which was based on Promod Kumar’s letter to the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) and was published in this newspaper on October 29, the CBI said: “Investigations against Sri Promod Kumar does not require consent from the State Government, as the case was registered on the order of Hon’ble High Court of Madras.” The CBI also claimed that it had seized “incriminating documents” from the officer’s house in Chennai on March 12.
