Probus Club celebrates Children’s Day

The Probus Club of Chennai, an association of retired and retiring professionals, celebrated Children’s Day and its bi-decennary year jointly with the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here on Friday.

As part of the celebrations, fancy dress, essay writing, oratorical and painting competitions were conducted for school students. Outstanding school students from Class 10 were presented with awards, encouraging them to perform better in whatever tasks they take up.

Also, the Probus award for excellence was given to S Gladis Arokia Mary, headmistress of Chennai High School on Karaneeswarar Pakoda Street, for producing good results in the SSLC examination for the last two academic years. She was given a scroll of honour to commemorate her achievement.

Theatre artiste and actor Delhi Ganesh, who was the chief guest, gave away the Probus Award to Gladis. Anastasia Shmidt, head, Russian Language Institute at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture was the guest of honour on the occassion.

Students from the ‘Sanju School of Arts’ performed ‘Avvai Vilakki’ — a musical feature to honour the prize winners.
