Customs officer run over by local train

A customs officer was run over by a Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train near Chennai on Tuesday after he slipped and fell off the compartment in which he was commuting.

According to a Government Railway Police (GRP) official at Tambaram, the deceased, identified as Kannan (42), was employed as a Tax Assistant at the Customs Office in Parrys.

He boarded a Beach-bound train at Kattangulathur around 6 am. He unfortunately slipped from the coach as the train was moving towards Potheri railway station and came under the wheels of the same train, the official added.

Kannan hailed from Rail Nagar in Kattangulathur.

Duo Held for Forgery

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested two persons for forging documents and thereby obtaining a loan of Rs 75 lakh from South Indian Bank.

Police said Muthuvel of Nandanam, made copies of the property documents belonging to Gowtham, a businessman.

Muthuvel used these documents to obtain a loan of Rs 75 lakh. The forgery came to light when the bank initiated recovery proceedings after the loan was defaulted.

Muthuvel and his accomplice Sri Ram were arrested while another accused Ramalingam is absconding. During the interrogation, the duo admitted to committing the crime, police said.

3 Arrested for Grabbing Land

Three persons were arrested on charges of land grabbing here on Tuesday.

Police said a piece of land belonging to Krishnakumari, a resident of Alwarthirunagar was encroached upon by her brother-in-law Mohan, who obtained a power of attorney of the land. Police said, Mohan, his accomplice Seethalakshmi and her husband Rathakrishnan had conspired and sold off the land to one Anjugam.

Two Die in Road Mishap

Two friends died after their motorcycle rammed the center median on Velachery Main Road on Tuesday.

Police said Anandan,(22), and Prabakaran, (23), both residents of Lakshmipuram near Mudichur, were on their way back home from the city when the mishap took place.

When they reached near Medavakkam Junction, their vehicle met with the mishap. They were admitted to the GH, where they died.
