Understanding of god
My mother is my first god, followed by my well-wishers. Music is another form of god and, in that sense, people like Ilayaraja and M S Viswanathan are also god to me.
Spiritual practices
Every night after a long day of concerts, I go for a long walk and seek the peaceful impact of the night to calm my senses. It is the time when my mind is free of thoughts.
Take on meditation
Practice and hard work are meditation for a musician. Taking up a task and focusing on it entirely is meditation. It may be for an hour or half an hour.The mind should be decluttered and focused.
Miracles
The biggest miracle in my life is that though I never wanted to marry, I am a happily married man today. I have seen miracles take place many times in my professional life. If something happens that you never hoped for, it is a miracle. That’s how I got an offer to tour China. I spent almost a month there, touring and playing at five concerts.
Religious practices
I believe in god and I embrace all religions. I pray at the Velankanni Church in Besant Nagar and the dargah in KK Nagar. I believe there is no restriction when it comes to prayers and god.
Pilgrimage spots
I am a Shirdi Sai Baba devotee. I make it a point to begin every year with a prayer to Sai Baba at the temple in Mylapore. Another temple that I frequent is the Adi Parasakthi temple in Melmarvuthavur.
