Anticipatory bail refused for Pratibha Shipping Co directors

The Madras High Court has refused advance bail to Sunil Anandrao Pawar, Suhar Anandarao Pawar, Sachin Kesav Chauhan, Nilkanth Balkrishnan Vidwan, Capt Sachin Kesav Chauhan, Capt Avinash Mohan and Ved Prakash Sharma of Pratibha Shipping Company Limited in Mumbai, who apprehended arrest in connection with the death of six sailors of Pratibha Cauvery on October 31 last year.

“Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, this court is of the view that the custodial interrogation of the accused are necessary,” Justice R Subbiah said and dismissed their bail applications on Wednesday.

The judge, however, granted bail to Suresh Anandarao Pawar and Madhan Anandarao Pawar, the other two directors of the company. The duo was arrested on March 5 last and they had been in custody for about a month.

 “Hence, this court is of the view that their further incarceration is not necessary,” the judge said and granted them bail. They should execute a personal bond for `10,000 each with two sureties each for a like sum to the satisfaction of the IX Metropolitan Magistrate in Saidapet, the judge said. The judge said Suresh Anandarao Pawar and Madhan Anandarao Pawar should stay in Chennai and report before the Sastri Nagar police daily at 10.30 am. The judge also granted advance bail to  Capt Sunil Kumar Rai, the seventh accused in the case, on the same conditions.
