Lorry knocks down, kills two youth on bike

In a freak accident near Mangadu, two friends including a plus two student awaiting his exam results, were run over by a lorry and were killed on the spot on Friday night. Two of their friends sustained minor injuries. Police is on the look out for the absconding lorry driver.

Police said Murali (19), a hardware store employee from Karambakkam, was riding a two-wheeler with his friend E Goutham (18), who had completed his plus two exams, from Ponniamman Nagar, on the pillion.

They were followed by two of their other friends Manikandan (24) and Saravanan (20) in another two-wheeler. Police said the friends were on their way to Singarayapuram near Mangadu to attend a birthday party. When they neared Sivanthangal, Murali swerved his bike to the right to avoid hitting an electric pole when a tipper lorry hit the two-wheeler from behind. The bike fell and the two friends fell to the left. Murali went under the front tyre of the lorry while Goutham was run over by the rear wheel. Both were killed on the spot.
