Eminent agricultural scientist M S Swaminathan has called for an integrated energy security policy with a bigger role for renewable energy. Speaking at an event organised by IEEE Sight Madras Section and the Solarillion Initiative, in the city recently, he emphasised the need for promoting solar energy. He also gave away prizes to the winning teams of Solar Lamp Design Contest, in which 65 teams from 20 institutions in Tamil Nadu participated.
B S Abdur Rahman University won the first prize in the contest, while the second and third prizes went to Aalim Muhammed Salegh College of Engineering and Jeppiaar Engineering College, respectively.
