A trend check for this summer

The scorching heat of summer has finally set in and it’s time to heat things up a bit with this year’s seasonal styles. Summer 2013 brings us a plethora of trends dominating the fashion scene. “This season, look out for tunic tops, peplums, kaftan dresses and the maxi (oversized) appeal,” says Saurabh Singh, Creative head, Musin. He adds, “Use of khadi in different colours is also in vogue now.”

For this summer, designers suggest colours like light blue, white and orange that will make a safe outfit for beating the heat. “This summer it’s all about floral printed bottoms, organic fabrics, cotton flowing dresses, and let’s not forget the sedate sheer fabric.” says Sandeep, Owner, TNO99696 Design Studio.

Neon highlights and patterns like printed or statement jeans are totally in for this summer. “A simple combination for a bright sunny day could be a loose colour-block dress with a sheer fabric over the sleeves for women.” Sandeep adds, “And men can pair up coloured ankle cut trousers with a printed shirt teamed up with a pair of comfy loafers.”

To be ready for an evening party, one can’t step out of the dressing room without trying out peplum-style and metallic coloured dresses. The extended frill fabric at the waistline makes the peplum cut a great option for  curvy Indian woman. “I would suggest a peplum dress needn’t just be restricted to black. One can try out other colours like bright red or hot pink.” advises Suruchi Kumar, designer, Prathik apparels.

Chunky neon-coloured jewellery or neck pieces designed in geometrical shapes can highlight an outfit and make for that perfect final touch. Footwear like flip flops, jute chappals, brogues, wedges and shoes were a huge vogue in 2012 and will continue so this year. “Accessories this season have two sides — the loud use of block colours or on the other hand, simple attire with no accessories at all.” says Tisha, freelance accessories designer. She adds that the footwear trends  are leaning towards wedges  going natural with  earthy tones.
