Prez Visit Expected to Trigger Traffic Snarls

The city is expected to witness some traffic snarls on Friday as President Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to attend two functions here.

Mukherjee will be inaugurating the 28th Indian Engineering Congress at Hotel Leela Palace in MRC Nagar, at 11.45 am. Governor K Rosaiah and Industries Minister P Thangamani will attend the function. The President’s next engagement is the inauguration of the School of Commerce and Economics at the Loyola College in Nungambakkam at 1 pm.

Police sources said that the practice of halting traffic for about 10 minutes prior to the VIP convoy’s passage would be followed. However, similar experiences in recent times have shown that traffic is bound to be hit for hours along the stretches that the President’s convoy is likely to travel.
