HC nod for release of Thillu Mullu-2

The Madras High Court has permitted the release of Tamil feature film Thillu Mullu-2, starring Shiva, Santhanam and Isha Deol, on June 14.

Originally, M R Viswanathan aka Visu of Okkiyum Thoraipakkam, filed a civil suit and an application to restrain Vendhar Movies of Saligramam and the producers of the film, from releasing the same on June 14.

Plaintiff (Visu) claimed that he was the author of the script and literary and dramatic work of the original film Thillu Mullu, starring  Rajanikanth, released in 1981. The new film ‘Thillu Mullu 2’ contained the same screen play and dialogues, Visu contended.

When the matter came up before Justice R Sudhakar today, senior advocate A Natarajan submitted that Thillu Mullu-2 did not contain the same screen play and dialogues of the earlier 1981 film, as claimed by Visu.

Natarajan also filed the affidavits of R Badri, director of the present film, and Balagurunathan, a partner in Vendhar Movies. The affidavits stated that the screen play of ‘Thillu Mullu-2’ was written by Badri and the dialogues were written by one Balaji. The film was a remake based on the original story line written by Sailesh Dey for the Hindi movie ‘Golmal’, released in 1979. The screenplay and dialogues used in the new movie were totally different from that of Viswanathan, the affidavits added.

‘’In view of the clear statements made by the duo, who are the necessary parties to give undertakings, which is also accepted by the plaintiff, theinjunction petition is closed, recording the above,’’ Justice R Sudhakar said. He posted the main suit for further hearing on July 5.
