Cyclonic storm may not bring rains to TN

The Meteorological Department has said there is very little likelihood that the cyclonic storm that has developed over the Andaman Sea would bring rain to Tamil Nadu. But parts of TN may receive rains due to local climactic factors.

The storm was 300 km northeast of Port Blair around 10 am. Prediction models of the Met Department have predicted that the cyclonic storm would move in a north-westerly direction, towards Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh. “It is headed towards Odisha. There is no chance of the storm turning towards Tamil Nadu, and it is not going to cause rain to the State,” said regional Meteorological Director SR Ramanan.

However, he said, parts of Tamil Nadu could receive rains due to convection and local weather factors which would have nothing to do with the cyclonic storm.
