About 42 sovereigns gold ornaments were lost by six women in a spate of chain snatching incidents reported in the city on Wednesday night.

Police said Mahalakshmi, (45), lost her 15 sovereign chain to a bike-borne duo while she was walking towards her house in VOC Nagar. Sulekha Bibi (50), lost her 13 sovereign chain in front of her residence in Tondiarpet. Manjula of Ilayamudi Street and Deivanai of MPT quarters, lost their 6 sovereign chains to bike borne duo while Tirupurasundari and Ponmalar, both from Tiruvottiyur lost 5 sovereign and 3 sovereign chains.
