Inter-collegiate action on the vision for 2020

The Department of Commerce-Honours of D G Vaishnav College organized an inter collegiate symposium on October 8 on various topics under the theme Vision 2020 – The Road Ahead.

The Department of Commerce-Honours of D G Vaishnav College organized an inter collegiate symposium on October 8 on various topics under the theme Vision 2020 – The Road Ahead. The symposium was inaugurated by Justice V Ramasubramanian, Judge, Madras High court.  It was presided over by P Haridas, Secretary, Dr S Narasimhan, Principal. The chief guest, Justice V Ramasubramanian, in his inaugural speech, gave a detailed insight on the cultural heritage of our country. He also stressed that the youngsters of the country should be aware of our history for fulfilling vision 2020. The inauguration also included the release of a coffee table book which elaborated on the role of the younger generation in the year 2020. The book was released by the chief guest and the first copy was accepted by the Secretary.

Various city colleges enthusiastically participated with innovative presentations which threw light upon many unexplored topics under the theme. The judges had a tough time in choosing the winner. The team from Bhaktavatsalam Memorial College for Women won the first place for their original work on the topic ‘Women and Child Abuse’. They received a cash prize of `2000. MOP Vaishnav College came in second for their presentation on the ‘Concerns Plaguing Special Economic Zones’. They received a cash prize of `1000. The effort of organizing the symposium was appreciated by all since it opened up new avenues and unraveled the world of finance.

There were two technical sessions; the first session was headed by Padmaja Priyadarshini, Managing Director of HomeplanGuru. Technical session II was headed by Dr S Thirunavukkarasu, Associate Professor and Head of the department of Economics, RKM Vivekananda College. Over 150 students benefited from the symposium.
