1,950 take part in Thirukkural contest

Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam, the literary wing of the Shriram group, one of India’s non-banking financial companies, organised the annual state level Thirukkural elocution competition in August and September, for school and college students across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Three students from the city emerged as winners of the contest that witnessed the participation of 1,950 students.

 D Kalaiselvi of Valliammal Women’s College, Anna Nagar, emerged as the winner. K S Simhanjana of P S Senior Secondary School, Mylapore, got the second position and P Premkumar of St Gabriel Higher Secondary School, Broadway, got the third position.

The preliminary and semi-final rounds of the contest were held in 12 zones — Chennai-Adyar and Chennai-Ambattur Zones, Vellore, Puducherry, Coimbatore, Salem, Tiruvarur, Tiruchy, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Karaikudi and Theni. The finals were held recently in Chennai at Dr MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for Women.
