Very small percentage of patients have access to kidney transplantation and dialysis because of the cost of the treatment, said Governor K Rosaiah.
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration of Sri Sumati Vishal Jain Dialysis Centre at Mahalingapuram on Sunday, he said that chronic renal diseases were emerging as a major healthcare challenge, but the cost of treatment was high and posed great difficulty.
“I am told that 10 per cent of the people of our country suffer from kidney disease in some form or the other and every year there is an increase of about 1.5 lakh people,” he said.The Governor also appealed to private and voluntary dialysis centres to adhere to water quality standards, ensure infection free treatment by strictly following hygiene standards and that they should not compromise on patient safety and health.
The dialysis centre by Sri Sumati Vishal Jain Educational Trust aims at providing medical care to the less privileged through four dialysis units set up on the premises given by Team Trust at Lynwood Lane, Mahalingapuram.
