CHENNAI: Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) was the top draw on day two of  counselling for engineering courses with 968 students opting for it. ECE’s surge to the top was turbo-charged by girl power with 66.2 per cent of the 968 students being girls.

Mechanical Engineering (ME) was the other top choice with 821 takers. A majority of students opting for ME — 807 of the 821, were boys. Preference shown to these two courses was massive with ECE having interested 295 and Mechanical 262 of them. Also popular was Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) which had 659 and 528 takers respectively.

Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering (E&I), with Automobile and Civil Engineering (ACE), proved to be popular on day two. E&I which had seven candidates preferring it on day one, surged with 130 takers on Thursday. The surprise gainer, however, was Information Technology (IT) with 371 takers.
