Annual Gokul to Govardhan Event at DG Vaishnav Today

CHENNAI: The Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha, along with Vaishnav Vanik Samaj and Shri Vallabhacharya Vidya Mahila Mandir will organise a one-day programme named Gokul to Govardhan on Sunday. The event is held to highlight the contribution of Shri Vallabhacharya’s emphasis on environment as portrayed in Lord Krishna’s life.

Held annually at the DG Vaishnav College, the programme would start with a ‘gho-pooja’ near Gopalakrishna idol, while 41 women representing as many verses extolling the greatness of river Yamuna will carry Yamuna pots. Also, 84 devotees of Vallabhacharya will accompany Shrimat Bhagwat with keerthans of ‘Ashtachap Keerthankars’.

Starting at 8 am, the procession will move to Govardhan Chowk in Godavari Block, where all 56 varieties of milk products, fruits and nuts and other things will be offered as bhog. Devotees will sing 41 verses after rendering of the Purushothama Sahaskranamam, 41 verses of Yamuna and one keerthan of each Keerthankar Asthachap, said a statement from the organisers.

People can offer Govardhan Parikrama, which will be followed by an aarthi. Later in the evening, leading bhanjankars will sing Krishna Bhajans between 4 pm and 5.30 pm.

Those among the public who are interested can have darshan anytime between 10 am and 4 pm at DG Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam.
