CHENNAI: Around 70 students of Madras University carried out a rally from their hostel near the Thiruvalluvar statue to the college campus near Anna Salai on Tuesday morning to mark the passing away of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

“He was a major influence on the youth for his simplicity, contributions to science and immense patriotism. Moreover, he reached the heights of fame from a humble beginning in Tamil Nadu, our home state,” said an organising member of the peace rally. Though it was planned only for the college students, other people standing nearby also joined in the rally.
