CHENNAI: Members of the Covelong surfing school in association with the Central Marine and Fisheries Institute (CMFRI) held a clean up drive at the Kovalam Beach on Wednesday morning. Around 200 people including fishermen and children both from the surf school and St Joseph’s matriculation participated in the cleanliness programme. “We usually organise similar drives almost every week, as it is our chief priority. But this is the first time we organised a drive in association with CMFRI,” said Murthy Meghavan, co owner and trainer of Covelong surf school. Over 10 bags of garbage were collected in the two-hour drive. “We are glad that we joined hands with all surfers and fishermen. We look forward to working with them,” said Joe Kizhakudan scientist, CMFRI, who flagged off the drive.
