Revamped MBBS syllabus to be out soon on Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical uni website

The revamped MBBS syllabus framed according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India (MCI) will be introduced in this academic year 2016-2017.

CHENNAI: The revamped MBBS syllabus framed according to the guidelines of the Medical Council of India (MCI) will be introduced in this academic year 2016-2017.

The revamped syllabus will soon be available on Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University website. This is part of the re-framing of the curricula incorporating the recent concepts. Bio-ethics, integrated teaching and central council’s amendments have been included in the syllabus.

Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University also has been proposed to have central monitoring for all  examination centres to ensure fair conduct of examinations and to avoid sending vigilance squads, as part of overhauling of examination evaluation system, said Dr S Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.

In her address at 28th convocation of the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Geethalakshmi said the university was also examining the feasibility of online evaluation. Not only this, the university also will start fellowship sports medicine for undergraduate students soon.

The university has been recognised as a nodal centre for bioethics teaching and training, Geethalskhmi added.

Anti-doping laboratory will be started to provide certificate course training in anti-doping and also next to online family medicine programme, the university is going to start online lifestyle disorders management course.

Research and development is one of the key determinants of shaping healthcare delivery. The Union government Department of Health Research aims to bring modern health technology to people by translating medical innovations into products and introducing them into the public and private health delivery system at a reasonable cost, said Dr Jagdish Prasad, Director-General of Health Services, Union Health Ministry.

Jagdish Prasad also urged the students to adhere to medical ethics. He also urged the students to service with humanity and humility towards their patients.

A total of 20,489 candidates from dental, ayush and allied health science courses were awarded degrees. Endowment gold medal was conferred on 92 candidates, endowment silver medal on 20 candidates and Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University silver medal was awarded to 69 candidates.

Kancheepuram bagged seven medals - five endowment gold medals, one silver medal and one university medal and two other students bagged five gold medals each.

Governor Vidyasagar Rao presented honorary doctorate to three candidates.

The university also conferred lifetime achievement awards on  Dr  S Mohamed Rela, prof of liver surgery and transplantation and hepatologist, Global Hospitals, Chennai and Dr Mohan Kameswaran, senior ENT consultant, Madras ENT Research Foundation, Chennai.
