CHENNAI: After a day of shutdown, the city crawled back to normalcy on Wednesday, despite a continuing gloom.

Shops have reopened in the morningh and business is as usual. Most private companies have resumed work as well. Restaurants and hotels as well as online food services, which have stopped services on Tuesday, are also functioning in the city.

The MTC said buses were already plying as usual and services on regular routes would continue throughout the day. While cab services did not come to a complete standstill, but most were charging exorbitant rates.

However, since late Tuesday evening, cabs went back to their regular pricing. Even autos, which were overcharging, were back on the roads after a day of mourning.

The not too frequent train services have become normal. Though people have been visiting J Jayalalithaa's grave since the morning, there was no crowd or traffic snarl reported anywhere in the city.
