Sharp, witty and had guts

Before we came together for stage plays, we were classmates in the Law College. I knew him from the early 1960s. Pattu of UAA actually inspired Cho to start writing plays. I was interested in cricket and represented my college team. Though Cho had passion for the sport, he remained a mere critic even then. He used to tell me that I could have played better.

Over the years, he groomed himself and made it big as a political playwright. MGR liked him so much. In the time where only Dravidian people like Sivaji, MGR, SS Rajendran and MR Radha were doing stage plays, Cho, a fresher received phenomenal response from everybody.

He was the first person who had the guts to quit stage plays when he was at the peak of his career. Then, he became a popular political analyst. We lost touch in between, but last year, we had three or four opportunities to meet. One was at his son’s wedding. Also, I got an email from him some time ago, saying he saw somebody very similar to me on an English TV channel. On the other hand, a person, who was extremely sharp and witty, took characters opposite to what he was on the screen. Maybe he enjoyed doing what he wasn’t in real life!
