Students among the accused in Kodungaiyur blast case

Police have solved the case and arrested five people including three students, who run a western music band named ‘Black Panther'.

CHENNAI: When the entire city police force was busy managing the law and order situation following rumours over former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s ill-health on December 5, a low intensity bomb blast was reported in Kodungaiyur which almost went unnoticed.

Police, who swiftly conducted investigation, have solved the case and arrested five people including three students, who run a western music band named ‘Black Panther’.

An investigating officer told Express that the blast occurred inside the residence of S Amjad Khan (48) on the afternoon of December 5. The incident has shocked the entire neighbourhood. Fortunately, there was no casualty or damage to property.

Upon inquiry, it was revealed that Amjad’s son A Saiyub Khan, a student, had brought home a bag, allegedly containing a low intensity bomb that went off accidentally.

Saiyub along with two other students, Fabiyan and Siva, run the music band and they became friends with Ilaiyavan (22), who happens to be a close associate of a murder accused, Sailesh Kumar.
Police said Sailesh who makes low intensity bombs had given one to Ilaiyavan for safe keeping. Ilaiyavan, in turn, stored it in a college bag and gave it to an ‘unsuspecting’ Saiyub.
Kodungaiyur police have arrested all the five and are  investigating the matter.
