CHENNAI: Scores of residents at Sathya Moorthy Nagar in North Chennai staged a protest blocking the road demanding restoration of power and water supply on Wednesday.

MTC buses and other vehicles piled up at the Sathya Moorthy Nagar because of the road block causing inconvenience to the passengers. “While the power supply was restored in most of the city, this part of North Chennai alone was neglected. Besides, lack of power supply, we have to put up with mosquito bite,” said Parimala, a resident of J J Nagar in Vyasarpadi.

The residents dispersed after 20 minutes of protest when police personnel rushed to the spot and assured them that steps would be taken to resume power supply.

Another resident Nagamma complained that Metro Water supply was also disrupted. “They are giving water supply for hardly two hours, but that too, the water also stinks and is discoloured,” rued Nagamma.

“This is the third time that we have resorted to road block, thinking of turning officials’ attention to us, but in vain,” said Venkatesh, another protester.

“The EB officials said they are  short-staffed. We are suffering with kids here, but it seems so comfortable for the officials to come up with such answer,” said Uma Devi.

Meanwhile, over 500 residents of Mogappair West and Nolambur picketed the local electricity board office. They claimed that while power wasn’t restored to residential units, commercial establishments were favoured.
