CHENNAI: A minor fire broke out in a class room in the second floor of a 15-storey building in SRM University campus in Kattankulathur in Kancheepuram district on Saturday.

The fire which reportedly broke out from the false ceiling in the class room of the EEE department gutted the ceiling, police said adding that five fire tenders were pressed into service after a fire call around 1 pm.

However, the fire was put off by the security guard with fire extinguishers and students evacuated before the fire tenders arrived. Elevator services were also stopped, police added.
