CHENNAI: City police seized around 200kg of ganja from a Kerala registered car on Monday evening near Puzhal. The car occupants managed to flee.

A police team was conducting a regular vehicle check at Kavangarai in Mariammal Junction, Puzhal. “At around 5.50 pm, a Maruti Alto bearing registration number KL 21 J 4089 did not stop at the check point,” police said.

Police sent out a message to Puzhal check post about the car and its direction. A team there chased the car and soon stopped it. But by the time the police got to the car, two persons in the car managed to escape. While searching police found eight bags of ganja that weighed about 200kg.

A case has been registered with the Puzhal police who have launched a search for the two occupants of the car.

On Monday, three kg of ganja was found in a playground in MKB Nagar. Previously, around 98kg of ganja was seized from a house at Shenoy Nagar and one person was arrested.

The police during investigation found ganja stored in small packets in different places at a graveyard in Shenoy Nagar. C Kathick (26) was arrested in this connection.

L70 lakh snatched from man

In a daring incident, three unidentified men on a bike snatched around `70 lakh from an man near Tiruvanmiyur on Tuesday evening.

Police said Shanmugam of Puducherry had come to the city by government bus to exchange foreign currency at a bank on East Cost Road. “For returning to Puducherry, he decided to board a bus from Tiruvanmiyur bus depot. When he reached the bus stand, the trio who were on the bike snatched the bag with the cash and fled the scene,” police said.

Man kills friend over lewd comment about wife

In a fit of rage, a middle aged man killed his friend who allegedly spoke ill about his wife, on Monday night at Tambaram.

John alias Johnson (30), of Kannadapalayam, working in a meat shop was separated from his wife for the past one and a half years. On Monday, he along with three other friends were drinking at Kuppa Medu at around 9.45 pm.

“Raju alias Raja (52), a mason, had passed a lewd comment about Johnson’s wife, angering him. He went to his house about 250 metres away, brought a knife and stabbed Raju to death,” police said. Raju, a widower, was living with his ten-year-old son. His body was sent to Chrompet GH for autopsy. Johnson was arrested on Tuesday morning.
