Reflective Collars on Dogs and Cattle Can Prevent Accidents

CHENNAI: Organised by Provoke magazine in association with People for Cattle of India (PFCI), a one-of-a-kind ‘collar campaign’ of 1,000 reflective collars were put on stray dogs and cattle to prevent road accidents. Arun Prasanna, PFCI founder, said, “The initiative has been successfully tried with dogs in metros like Mumbai and Pune. This is the first time that an NGO is trying it with cattle.”

Amid fun games for the pooches at the pet social, including a ramp walk and musical chairs, celebrities like Nikki Galrani of Darling fame and actor Ganesh Venkatraman also said a few words supporting the cause.  Jayanthi of the State Human Rights Commission and K Jayanth Murali IPS, Inspector General of Police were also present. Jayanth suggested, “It would be great if these reflective collars could be distributed to police stations and rural areas as well.” The reflective collars are free for neighbourhood animals. But you can buy one for your pet at `100. Contact 9884071136 for details. —
