22-Yr-Old Held for Murdering House Owner

CHENNAI: A week after an auto driver was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his house in Tondiarpet, police on Wednesday arrested a tenant in his house for allegedly killing him.

The accused, 22-year-old Raja Babu, a construction labourer, told investigators that he killed his house owner as the deceased was too friendly with his sister-in-law. The accused was staying with his elder brother Kumar and his family, wife and two children, at the house owned by Haja Jammaluddin (45). On April 28, around 1 pm, Kumar found Haja lying unconscious on the floor with injuries on his head.

The police were alerted and Haja was moved to the Government General Hospital ,where he succumbed to injuries the next day.

On Tuesday, police received the autopsy report which said that there were multiple injuries on Haja’s head and there were also strangulation marks on his neck. The locals and neighbours were interrogated and it was found that Raja Babu had killed Haja and fled the scene. Later, he assisted his brother in moving him to the hospital as he was unaware, police said.

During interrogation, Raja Babu confessed to his crime and said that he disliked his sister-in-law’s friendship with Haja. “Haja is said to have ignored his warnings.  Angered, he decided to eliminate Haja,” the officer added. Babu was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
