City gears up to meet possible floods

The city is gearign up to meet a possible flood in view of the heavy rains.
Relief camps were set up at 17 places across city with boats kept on standby. NDRF teams are also deployed with 10 boats and 120 personnel. Personnel from SDRF are also ready for any emergency, a corporation official said.
“Apart from the boats of NDRF, we also have another 12 boats and they have been deployed in Korattur, Chithra Nagar, Velachery and Ram Nagar. These are just precautionary measures," the official added.
According to Corporation officials, as much as 246 places in the city remained water logged on Wednesday. Of this 190 places were cleared by the end of the day. 
As many as 112 pump sets and super suckers, suction and jet rodding machines borrowed from Chennai Metro Water Board were pressed into service. Also, corporation personnel employed cutting machines to remove 46 trees, which have fallen in various parts.
