Four youth drown in sea off Marina

Four youth drowned in the sea off Marina Beach in two separate incidents on Tuesday evening.

CHENNAI: Four youth drowned in the sea off Marina Beach in two separate incidents on Tuesday evening. While the body of three persons washed ashore, rescue personnel are yet to retrieve the body of a teenager from Vellore, police said.

The incidents happened around evening. Two teenagers, S Hidayat (17) and J Ashiq (16), from Vellore district were playing in the beach when a giant wave sucked them in. While the body of Ashiq was secured, rescue personnel are yet to secure the body of Hidayat.

In another incident, two friends, Suresh (26) and Satish (21), both residents of Brickiln road, Otteri, also got drowned in the sea. The bodies were moved to Government Royapettah Hospital for autopsy. Rescue operations would continue on wednesday to retrieve the  body of Hidayat. Anna Square Police have registered a

Only a week ago, on May 15, two teenagers- Srinivasan (17) and Sivagurunathan (14), inmates of a children home in Velachery main road were drowned in the sea off marina beach. Police found a partially decomposed body of an unidentified  woman in a vacant land near Kundrathur on Monday. Police said, the woman in her late thirties had a slit mark on her neck and was found dumped in the bushes in the vacant area on the Kundrathur Road, one km from Sriperumbudur. Police suspect she was murdered elsewhere.
