CHENNAI: “For people like you, only marks will help”. Such unsolicited advice have haunted him for years. It could be humiliating because T Gopinath knows that the words “people like you” are only a reminder that he is an orphan. “I have heard it everywhere and from everybody,” the boy says.
He knows he is not that good at studies. On Wednesday, when the State was celebrating the thousands of centum scorers and hundreds of State toppers, Gopinath scored a modest 318 marks out of 500 to clear the board exams.
Though not so good at studies, Gopinath has other talents; he wants to become a football player. His zeal for football has already earned him a place in the team that went from Chennai to participate in the Street Child World Cup tournament held in Brazil in 2014.
