CHENNAI: In a freak accident, a small child died after a television set at her home in Madipakkam fell on her head while she was playing with her elder sister.
Police said Nithisha, all of 18 months old, was playing with her sister Janani (7) on Tuesday night when the incident happened at around 9.30 pm.
Her father M Senthil Nathan was in another room while their mother was busy in the kitchen when they heard the children screaming.
The parents rushed her to a local clinic, from where the doctors referred her to a private hospital in Nungambakkam. There, despite best efforts from the doctors, the child did not respond to treatment and died later in the night.
The Madipakkam police have registered a case under section 174 of the CrPC (unnatural death). Further investigations are on.
