3 girls run over outside their college in Chennai

CHENNAI: Three girl students of a college in Chennai were run over by a water tanker the busy GST Road today.

According to sources, the three girls were in a group of five trying to cross the busy road just opposite Chellammal Women's College at Guindy at 1.30 pm today, when a water tanker, allegedly being rashly driven, ran over them, killing them on the spot.

The other two pedestrians have been hospitalised with injuries.

The victims have been identified as Chitra, Gayathri and Aisha, all of them students of Chellammal Women's College. They were reportedly going home after college when the accident took place.

After running over the pedestrians, the tanker is said to have also rammed into an auto before coming to halt.

It is not clear yet to which company the water tanker belongs to. Police did not reveal any details about the driver.

The accident resulted in a traffic jam on GST Road and Mount Road with vehicles gridlocked beyond the Kathipara junction at Guindy.
