CCTVs to be installed at 22,064 places: Govt 

CHENNAI: In six months time, the government will install CCTVs at 22,064 important places, the State Home Department has informed the first bench of Madras High Court. When the suo-motu writ relating to the murder of techie S Swathi at Nungambakkam railway station came up for further hearing before the bench of Chief Justice SK Kaul and Justice R Mahadevan on Friday, the Department submitted that the state police had identified 72,629 important places, after consulting the stake-holders, for installation of CCTV cameras. So far installations had been completed in 50,565 places. The remaining 22,064 places would be covered in another six months, the Department said in its counter. The matter is adjourned till December 7.
