Murder accused rides 600 km with wife and children on bike to evade arrest

CHENNAI: In a desperate attempt to escape arrest, a murder accused drove 600-km on his two-wheeler along with wife and children, but still landed behind the bars.On Tuesday, S Sukumar, owner of a printing press, was found murdered. The Ambattur police were informed that the victim’s friend Joseph was last seen with Sukumar sitting and drinking. When police tried to contact Joseph, his phone was switched-off. Based on definite leads, the police nabbed him in Nagercoil at a relative’s house.

During interrogation, Joseph confessed to the crime and claimed that he had borrowed Rs 3 lakh from a private money lender for Sukumar. Even after 15 months, Sukumar didn’t bother to repay despite repeated requests, putting the burden on Joseph.

On Monday night Joseph came to Sukumar’s shop and again asked for the money. Sukumar, initally said he would repay the money after selling the printing machine. Both sat for some time having drinks and later Sukumar refused to pay the money, which led to a verbal fight. An enraged Joseph hit Sukumar with iron road on his head killing him on the spot. Scared of arrest, he fled the city in a most dramatic fashion.
