One dead, nine injured as 'drunk' law student rams Porsche into ten auto rickshaw in Chennai

In a freak accident, an unidentified person  driving an imported car- Porsche killed one person and left nine injured after it rammed into around ten auto rickshaws before it came to a halt near Cathedral Road during the wee hours of Monday.

CHENNAI: In a freak accident, an unidentified person allegedly under the influence of alcohol rammed his speeding Porsche into around ten auto rickshaws, instantly killing one person and leaving nine injured. The incident happened near Cathedral Road during the wee hours of Monday.

The deceased was identified as Arumugam, an auto rickshaw driver.

Police sources said, two youth who were speeding in the luxurious car bearing Delhi registration were driving towards Marina Beach rammed into around ten auto rickshaws parked on Cathedral Road.

In the accident one person died on the spot, amongst the nine persons involved in the impact, two persons sustained grievous injuries.

Passerby's who witnessed the incident immediately alerted the police who rushed to the spot and the injured were rushed to a government hospital.

Meanwhile, the police arrested a person identified as Vikaas, a second year law student and is the son of an advocate, while the other person managed to escape. The police are suspecting that it might be a case of drunken driving.

"The duo in the car were not injured because of the air bag popped out," said an police personnel.

Initial investigations revealed that the duo had attended a party in the city and were returning home when the incident was reported.
