Cab driver attacked, robbed of phone, wallet in Chennai

A 25-year-old cab driver was severely injured when two unidentified men robbed him after hacking him with a sickle in Chromepet late on Friday.

CHENNAI: A 25-year-old cab driver was severely injured when two unidentified men robbed him after hacking him with a sickle in Chromepet late on Friday.

Shiva, a driver with Ola, was on duty when the incident occurred. “He was waiting to pick up a customer at Radha Nagar in Chromepet,” explained the investigating official. “After he called to inform the woman that he had arrived, two men approached him on a bike and struck a conversation with him. While he was talking, the man at the pillion took out a sickle and attacked him.”

Police said that Shiva had blood gushing from his head and arms. At this point, the men snatched his mobile and wallet. As the customer reached the crime scene, the men snatched her phone and fled. The woman did not suffer any injuries.

Hearing the screams, people nearby called for an ambulance and rushed Shiva to the hospital. Shiva was later made to undergo stitches.

Shiva is a resident of RK Puram in Chitlapakkam. A case was registered by the Chitlapakkam police.
