CHENNAI: Five days after a 14-year-old girl with intellectual disability was sexually assaulted by a man who kidnapped her from near her house, the suspect, a private company security guard, was arrested by the city police on Friday with the help of CCTV footage.

The man, identified as Siva alias Sivasankaran, 28, a resident of Sengundram, who worked as a security guard in a private company in the same locality, was arrested from his residence.
Police confirmed the man was under the influence of alcohol, when he sexually abused the girl in a secluded area.

Dr M Sudhakar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anna Nagar, told Express that a special team was formed and CCTV footage taken from the vicinity, where the images of the man were taken.
“A detailed probe was carried out and we nabbed him from his residence on Friday. The man is unknown to the family. He already has a cellphone theft case registered against him at MKB Nagar. He is unemployed,” Sudhakar added.

Another investigation officer said he spotted the girl playing near her house for quite some time. When she was alone, he approached her and took her away on his bike.
“He was in an inebriated condition when he took the girl to a secluded place and sexually abused her. He had joined work as a security guard only 10 days ago before the incident was reported,” the officer added.
On August 6, the child, who was studying in Class VI, was playing near her house in the city.

Siva came on a motorcycle and took the girl away, saying her father was looking for her.
“The man had bought the victim biryani and then took her to a Tamil movie. Since the girl was intellectually disabled, she was not able to explain certain things and could not recollect his name. She only gave clues like he had curly hair and dark skin. With that, we traced the man in CCTV footage,” said an investigation officer.
The victim’s father works as a lorry driver. Her mother is a homemaker.
