Former SC judge Kailasam’s son moves HC against ED raids

Drsadayavel Kailasam (63), son of P S Kailasam, former Chief Justice of the Madras High Court and former judge of the Supreme Court, has moved the Madras High Court to declare as illegal.

CHENNAI: Drsadayavel Kailasam (63), son of P S Kailasam, former Chief Justice of the Madras High Court and former judge of the Supreme Court, has moved the Madras High Court to declare as illegal the search and seizure conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at his residence in Alwarpet, his parents’ residence in Teynampet and his clinic at Teynampet on December 1.

Justice K Ravichandrabaabu, before whom the writ petition came up for hearing on Monday, posted it to Wednesday to ascertain its maintainability.According to the petitioner, whose mother Soundara Kailasam is a well-known Tamil poet, he has been a law-abiding citizen regularly declaring his assets and filing income-tax returns. Against this background, the Joint Director and Deputy Director of the ED in the city conducted raids on December 1 at his house, his parents’ residence and his clinic and seized some irrelevant items.Petitioner contended that the search was totally unjustified and unwarranted.
