CHENNAI: A much-awaited verdict and an unfolding political drama consumed the drawing room discussions. But, it failed to hinder the sway of cupid over young colleges goers in the city, for whom it was still Valentine’s Day!

When it came to Marina beach, a regular haunt for lovers and couples, cupid was just having another field day. However, some of them weren’t indifferent to the day’s developments as they were getting updates on phones.

Pandiyan, who runs an ice cream stall at the beach, said it was a regular crowd at the Marina. Asked whether anything different was happening since it was Valentine’s Day, he grinned broadly and said the crowd might increase after the sunset.

Though there was a lurking fear of violence after the verdict came out at 10.30 am, the city remained peaceful and couples stuck to their plans.

“We were a little apprehensive about coming out in the morning but things seemed okay. So we decided to head out,” said Revathi K L, a college student. For those who seldom care about Cupid’s day, it was business as usual. And there was some whining about being single on social media.
