CHENNAI: Deceased Dalit scholar Rohit Vemula’s mother Radhika Vemula has said that Dalit-minority unity is key to fight against right-wing forces in the county.
Addressing a gathering organised by VCK on issues faced by Dalit students in educational institutions on Saturday, she said, “Rohit was a symbol for protest against discrimination faced by not only Dalits, but also minorities. He wanted them to be united and not many, particularly political parties, have understood this”.

She drew a parallel between the present Narendra Modi government and the rule during Emergency by the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Radhika who is currently facing a legal battle to prove that she belonged to the Dalit community, met VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan and other leaders on Sunday.
“We have expressed solidarity to her struggle,” said the VCK general secretary D Ravikumar.
