Train detained as guard complains of chest pain

CHENNAI:An EMU train plying between Chennai Beach- and Tambaram was detained at Pallavaram station on Wednesday evening for about 20 minutes, after the train’s guard suffered chest pain while on duty.

The guard, Ranveer Kumar (34), developed chest pain around 5 pm, when the EMU was leaving Tirusulam railway station.
According to Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials, Ranveer felt a heavy object was thrown in his direction from the ground. This caused him to panic, leading to the chest pain.
When the train reached the next station, Pallavaram, the guard was rushed to hospital for treatment. All tests, including ECG and X ray, were done and the results turned out to be normal. He has been discharged from the hospital, an RPF official said, adding that no object was  found in the guard’s cabin and the glass wasn’t shattered.

As a result of this, the train was detained at Palalvaram station for about 20 minutes.
This latest incident comes on the back of concerns over stone pelting at passing trains, posing a safety hazard for both passengers as well as train crew. Following increased public awareness, such incidents were on the decline in sensitive areas like Tambaram Sanatorium and Vysarpadi. “We are reaching out to all schools and colleges in and around those areas and highlighting the dangers associated with stone pelting,” the official told Express.
