CHENNAI:The first bench of the Madras High Court granted permission to 25 small-scale road-side restaurants, which were ordered to be closed down due to lack of parking space, to file a petition challenging the order.

A mention was made by senior advocate PS Raman before the bench of acting Chief Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh and Justice K Kalyanasundaram, on Friday morning.   According to Raman, the livelihood of these small restaurants will be put in peril if they are not allowed to function. The officials, quoting the order dated February 10 last of the bench, had pulled down the shutters of the 25 hotels functioning in an area ranging from 400 to 500 sq.ft. with a small number of dining tables. He also added that nowhere in the world the parking area is mandated for this type of small road side restaurants. When the hotels themselves are located in small areas, how can they provide space for parking cars, he asked.
