CHENNAI: It is said ‘face is the index of the mind and eyes are the mirror of the soul’. How true... isn’t it? Our eyes reveal everything that’s going on inside us.We acknowledge or ignore with our eyes and make all sorts of gestures through them. Without eyes, no sights, scenes or colour patterns can be experienced,nor can we perceive anything exactly as it is and beyond. One can virtually speak through the eyes- they can smile,express love, hatred, sympathy and many more emotions that develop within us. The state of our mind directs our eyes to act according to its likes and dislikes, pride and prejudices.
A vice-afflicted soul will use his/her eyes for vicious purposes, which is, to express lust, anger, greed, attachment,etc, whereas a pious person will communicate love, mercy, appreciation, sympathy, good wishes and blessings through his/her eyes. We can be called civilised only when we are ‘civil-eyed’ i.e. viceless. If we are vicious and ‘criminal-eyed’, then our actions will be unrighteous and sinful which would spread sorrow and suffering around us.
Of the five sensory organs in our body, eyes are the most powerful as they enable the soul to perceive. However not much is ever talked about the ‘third eye’ that is non- physical and therefore invisible to the physical eye. It can be visualised with ‘divine intellect’ or ‘divine insight’ bestowed by the almighty. It is the ‘third eye’ which looks inward to seek truth about our reality. When the third eye ‘opens up’, our thinking process changes, light comes into our life and we experience ‘ the real self’ and ‘others’ with a new vision of clarity.
This light also lets us clearly see what is going on around us, what is important and what we need to ignore. It is as if an inner spark has been lit, before there was a feeling of darkness and ignorance. Our life becomes one of inspiring, of quality, of value and filled with mercy, love and truth, bringing us close to our original nature, which in turn enlightens ourselves, as well as the people around us through positive vibes, creating heavenly living.
