I-T official bags special EC award

BENGALURU  & CHENNAI : B R Balakrishnan, who is currently serving as the Director General of Investigation (Karnataka and Goa), Income Tax Department, has been conferred a special award by the Election Commission of India.


Balakrishnan was given the special award for expenditure monitoring. The certificate said that the I-T official took up “successful measures for expenditure monitoring through surveillance, searches and cash seizure leading to countermanding elections in two assembly constituencies...” The award was for his tenure as Principal Director, Income Tax, Tamil Nadu.


The award was distributed by President Pranab Mukherjee during the National Voters’ Day celebration held at Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.


Balakrishnan is from the 1983 batch of the Indian Revenue Service. He joined as the Director General of Income Tax (Investigation), Karnataka and Goa, in September last year. Prior to this, he had served as Principal Director of the I-T department for two years in Mumbai and one year in Chennai. 


Rajesh Lakhoni too awarded
Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni and  other officials from the district administration and the police department of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry figure in the Election Commission of India’s annual national awards for best electoral practices, national media and awards for excellence for 2016 that was announced on Wednesday.


Tamil Nadu CEO Lakhoni was chosen for election management under award for excellence. 
Among others recipients of the awards are Madurai collector and DEO K Veera Raghava Rao (voter education, electoral participation), Tiruchy collector and DEO K S Palanisamy, (electoral roll management), Karaikal SP AK Gaswas, and Dindigul SP A Saravanan (security management), and additional director Roy Rose (expenditure monitoring), and Gopi Swaminathan, technical advisor, NIC Puducherry (IT initiatives).
